Historical Fact Checking

In a world of AI hallucinations, clunky citation management tools, and politically motivated allegations of academic dishonesty, I offer a comprehensive fact-checking service to ensure your sources are airtight.

I begin my work by checking each and every footnote by hand. This process includes thorough copy editing, verification of page numbers, and confirmation that you’ve attributed all your evidence to the correct people and places. I then run the manuscript through a self-developed citation tracker to flag any internal inconsistencies. This tool works entirely through Word and Google Sheets; at no point does it do external research or make autonomous edits to your manuscript. The work ends with another round of edits by hand.

At the end of the process, you will receive two copies of your manuscript: one with clean formatting and another with tracked changes. I will also share a copy of the spreadsheet I built to track your citations, which you are welcome to use as you continue through your writing and editing process.

My doctoral dissertation required extensive use of digitized congressional documents and hearings, newspaper articles, corporate correspondence, scientific and medical studies, and environmental data. Additionally, I have deep experience working in and with the NARA system, both physically and digitally. I am a scrappy and creative researcher. Above all, I understand the anxiety inherent to the process of ensuring your arguments are rooted in an honest interpretation of your sources. If we work together, I will shoulder as much of that anxiety as possible, allowing you to focus on the writing and analysis.

I work on an hourly basis, and I accept book and article manuscripts at any stage. Packages are available for longer-term projects and clients with complex research needs (including visits to physical archives).
